John Drymon
Music Director
I came to St. Paul’s in May 2011 having been a church musician for 20 years at that point, sometimes part-time, sometimes full-time, in Roman Catholic, Lutheran, and Methodist congregations. I am looking forward to using my skills in an Episcopal setting, as I grew up in the Episcopal Church, spending most of my youth in Winston-Salem, before moving to Maryland. My grandfather was an Episcopal priest, serving as a missionary in pre-war Hawaii, and then several parishes in Piedmont NC.
My earliest paychecks in music came from serving as organist for two Episcopal churches in Southern Maryland, while I was still in high school. After many years of playing in clubs, concerts, recording sessions, touring, etc., with all different types of ensembles, I returned to church music, feeling a strong sense of calling to music ministry. I received choral conducting and organ playing certification at Westminster Choir College to further my skills and education, and to establish credentials to go along with my extensive experience in music and God-given talent
In addition to playing on Sunday mornings and other events, John directs both our Adult Choir and our Bell/Chime Choir. He is also the musician for San José Episcopal Mission which meets at St. Paul’s on Sunday afternoons at 3:00 pm.
